Google Eyes Home Automation & Security Market

Over the last couple of years we’ve seen some big cable and telecommunications providers like Comcast and AT&T enter the joint home automation and security market. And now, just last week, Google announced that it will pay more than $3 billion to acquire Nest Labs, a maker of intelligent thermostats and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Analysts report that the acquisition is an effort by Google to position the company to offer products for the connected home market. Although it is unknown exactly what products Google and Nest Labs will develop for the market moving forward, this acquisition could potentially cause big changes within the home automation and security market in the near future.

For several years now, a large number of traditional alarm dealers like Alarm Me Now have been making inroads with homeowners across the country by selling security as part of an overall connected home package. With the entrance of Google, many people believe it proves the validity, viability and growth potential of the market as a whole. It’s great that bigger companies like Google are now seeing what Alarm Me Now saw a long time ago. People want an easy to use, connected home automation and security package in one. We believe that soon, connected home technology is something that is going to be a mass market product that everyone will have. We think Google will help the industry move towards more IP-based technology and greater mobile connectivity. We are excited to see what new devices Google will develop and look forward to getting them into the hands of Maricopa consumers.
